Much as I enjoy working on the JP.com website, it has become obvious to me that for this “blog” style content there are much better tools around. So I’m going to practice what I preach and move my bloging aspirations over onto my facebook page. I have been experimenting for some time and face book offers more interaction, notification of new posts and a direct feed to twitter. Why don’t you have a look

I’ve been asked to work on the Natural Search for TwistDX in that marketplace. I thought it would be useful to show you how to create a good “backlink” from my website to theirs so you can see what to look for in a backlink. Here it is => RNA testing kit

This is what you are looking for
Anchor text - Use a good keyword string like “RNA testing kit”
Deep link into site - Link to the relevant page not just the home page
Link from a page with a page rank - The best links are from pages with a good Google Page rank
No “No follow tags” - Check the site does not tag the link’s so that search engines do not follow them

Ask me about this or any other SEM or SEO question on the JP.com Facebook Page
I have been working with Artes-Mundi this month on getting 500+ of their products listed. It’s not a complicated as you might first think.
Register with base.google.com
Create a spreadsheet with the , products, prices and URL’s in
Upload the spreadsheet using ftp...

It’s defiantly worth looking first to see what the competition levels are and of course the better optimised for search your pages are the further up the list you get :-)

All this in time for the Christmas rush :-)

The challenge is to get valuable channel of communication up and running without devoting excessive amounts of time to the process.
facebook appears to be the right demographic for the 3 clients I have testing at the moment. All of the below have been built and maintained by the clients themselves.

Activity Algarve (fun in the sun)

Artes-mundi (fair trade gifts)

Boatability (RYA Powerboat training)

Doe and Hope (unusual antiques and curios)

Here’s the JP.co facebook page... become a fan and tell me what you think ?

I have been doing a lot of link building recently for clients like www.zoomster.co.uk and www.twistdx.co.uk. And thought I would share with you some of the basics.

Links from external websites are very important as they establish your websites position as an authoritative source of information. The best links are those from high profile sites that are non commercial... E.g. Universities and government etc...
What should you look for

(1) The page should ideally have a google page rank... Absence of a page rank could indicate that a site has been blacklisted. You can use this website http://www.prchecker.info/ or if you use firefox there are some neat plugins you can install like search status which I use all the time http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/

(2) You should check to see if the links offered are “no-follow” tagged. You can do this using the Search Status tool... There is an option to should “no-follow” tags. It would defiantly be worth your reviewing your site to see where your out bound links go and decide which links you should no-follow tag. If in doubt... Just send me over a link and I can quickly check the site for you.

Here are my Pick of the free directories for you to start with

http://www.applegate.co.uk/applegate/Registers.do?operation=initFullRegistration
http://www.aboutus.org/Special/authentication/signup?
http://www.hotfroguk.co.uk/AddYourBusiness.aspx
http://www.businessmagnet.co.uk/CompanyAdmin/NotAuth/RegisterNewCompany.aspx
http://www.findtheneedle.co.uk/basic_package.asp (currently unranked but worth adding)
http://www.freeindex.co.uk/signup.htm
http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/user/register

Some of these can be a little time consuming to complete the entry but it is worth the effort.....pls give me a shout if you need a hand adding your submission.

It’s also worth noting that reciprocal links... i.e. directories that require a link back in return are generally not worth the effort.

Happy to answer your questions on email..

Chris JP
